This Safari lodge was where we camped for 3 nights. The lodge was run by women. We had a fantastic time. Our safari guide was Josephine , one of the 4 women guides in the Luangwa valley. She was the longest guide and a kick ass driver. She also could track leopards like no other guide. We ate fantastic meals and would get up at 5 am be walked down from our campsite to the lodge where we did a morning safari and evening safari.
We met a British bloke named Charlie. He has been coming to ZIKOMO safari lodge for 15 years. He grew up in Zambia and he now brings his 84 year old dad every year to ZIKOMO so he can can get his heart filled with Africa. I thought this was beautiful. Charlie’s dream is to live in a hut somewhere on the river. That sounds amazing right now. His wife isn’t into it at all, but the peacefulness of his dream was written in his eyes. In the meantime he will venture to ZIKOMO from Bristol and stay and go on safaris for 10 weeks .
Once you have experience Africa it is in your heart forever. I feel that being here. The pace of everyone, the smells, the incredible expansive landscape, the sunsets ,and the sunrises and the cool African evenings and mornings. The quietness and you are so close to the earth.
