We Are 4 Days Away

35 years ago, Adam( Thea’s dad), Thea and I were heading to Tanzania in August 1990. We had just gotten our first International teaching job at The International school of Tanganyika. Thea was turning 3 years old in a month. We had no idea what our lives would be like with a toddler heading to Africa. Today, 35 years later, Robbie and I are heading back, but this time to Zambia. Thea is now a mother of a 3 year old and someday her Lil Guy and his Zuzu and his mom will return once again to Tanzania and Kenya. I have wanted to return to Africa for many years after our 2 year contract was finished. I have looked into volunteering in Uganda as an Acupuncturist, working as a teacher again and even thought of getting my masters in Public health just to get back there. I have planned this trip for 35 years.

Now I am returning in 4 days to the heart land, The African Continent. The land where the earth sings with its ancientness. The land where the smells almost knock you over, the earth smells, cooking over charcoal smells, the animal smells and the wind and rain bringing the smell right under your nose. The land where the colors are so soothing on the eyes, blending into the subtle earth colors of intense dry and intense rainy seasons. This blog will take you through our present journey and I will bring back those memories of 35 years ago side by side. Walk with me through the next month as I take you on my return to Africa journey.
